Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Interview Experiences

Started off with some small talk with the 2 interviewers they seemed young and both of them also went to UofT so I felt a bit less nervous. Basic interview walked them through my resume they wanted me to elaborate on one of my past SWE experiences like what I did there, what I learned and how it helped me in knowing what I wanted to do after I graduate. Then a pseudo technical question it wasn't leetcode but I could tell they probably just pulled a problem from the website so it was more talk out loud how would you do this kind of thing (linked list question) then they let me ask questions during the last 5-10 mins I would say have questions prepared because they expect you will ask.

OA had two coding problems and the work simulation where you pick answers about leadership principles. Final round was brutal because the behavioral half they kept digging deeper on every answer like tell me more about that and what did you specifically do and I ran out of things to say. Coding was graph BFS which I got but apparently wasn't enough.

Superday format, first two were behavioral and laid back but third one was supposed to be technical and had me pitch a long and a short and I completely froze on the short pitch. The Canadian economy and recent news also came up, would've been fine if I had just prepared a short pitch beforehand.

Superday was three zooms in a row and the last one was all technical, DCF walkthrough and had me pitch a stock. First two were pretty chill though mostly why RBC why capital markets type stuff. And a lot of questions about Canadian current events

RBC HR phone screen then a panel with two operations managers. Questions about process improvement, working under tight service level agreements and a scenario about how I'd handle a workflow bottleneck where one team was a dependency for four others. Got to round 2 then silence for three weeks before a rejection email came through. No feedback on what could have been stronger, frustrating after two rounds.

Good expectations for a co-op. Technical round was with two engineers, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes basics and infrastructure as code. Also asked how I'd handle a failing deployment in production.

Supervisor covered my projects and SQL experience on the phone then managers asked OOP questions and about Java which I know well. And wanted to know about teamwork behavioral stuff, relaxed.

One 15 min phone call with HR then 30 minute interview with manager. He asked a lot about my university background like courses and ECs and we chatted at the end for a bit about hobbies and football.

This was like 5 rounds, insane for a co-op. Phone screen, behavioral with STAR questions, SQL and data analysis assessment, followed by a GROUP interview with other candidates where we did a case study together. I thought the group part went well but I guess not. Never made it to the final round

Recruiter screen was easy talked about projects mostly nothing too hard

90 min pair programming that was collaborative, hash map and recursion stuff then a life story interview where they ask what drives you and it all felt natural

Only one interview applied through my school. They wanted to hear about how my past co-op was, what I learned there and how I could apply what I learned to the RBC role interviewers were quite friendly had fun talking with them.

purely behavioral about interpersonal situations. HR screen first then interview with two HR business partners. Situational questions about conflict resolution and supporting an employee through a difficult process. Got to final round and then a rejection with no specific feedback, just a standard we went with another candidate email.

One HR interview asked me to introduce myself and walk her through my resume then another 30 min interview with manager we talked about the team and role mainly why I'd be interested etc.

First round pre recorded then one more round with hiring manager asked about basic technicals (SQL, Github, CI/CD)

Phone screen about SQL experience then take home assessment with 5 queries like joins aggregations window functions and walked through solutions after.

Very simple process, only one interview and it was mostly behavioral

First interview was a behavioral interview, asking questions about resume experience, why I want to work at RBC, and some basic situational questions. The second, and final round was a simple Excel technical assessment, testing concepts of data analytics related to a sample dataset provided.

Quick pre recorded interview then one round with hiring manager she was very nice and asked about my past co-op and a project I had listed on my resume sadly got declined a day after interview

No OA, fully behavioural. Good experience so far.
