Software Engineering Interview Experiences

one of the best interview processes I've been through, pair programming was chill and the engineer was super helpful not adversarial at all and life story was actually kind of nice to do. I ended up declining because I got a US offer that paid way more but I'd come back and interview at amazon again in a heartbeat, they seem to care about who you are as a person.

Failed the online assessment lol, took too long on the first coding problem and ran out of time on the second one so got the rejection email a few days later, no feedback.

coding was straightforward and interview was mostly about past projects and coding fundamentals everyone gets asked.

HackerRank had DSA and MCQs on OOPs OS networking, passed that then first technical was trees and BFS then second technical covered Java specifics like functional interfaces and exception handling and never got to HR.

CodeSignal OA first, 4 questions in 70 minutes. Third one was doable but the last one involved matrices and was tough. Power Day was like 4 hours of interviews in a row. Had a case interview about whether to drop a credit card fee, actually interesting, then system design was designing some monitoring dashboard. Behavioral was STAR stuff. Just a long day overall.

Aptitude test and pair coding with SQL window functions then a general fit interview then final rounds about how your work impacts customer experience. The fit interview was a unique round where they really wanted to understand your background and motivations.

Multiple rounds each getting harder as you go first round just online assessment then HR basic situation question you need to show thinking process. Then tough data questions about system design and security could not answer them all but still got offered.

OA graph traversal and hashmap both medium, interview 30 min behavioral 30 min coding had STAR stories for customer obsession and bias for action and coding was two pointers straightforward if you prep the LPs.

5 questions on a HireVue with a lot of safety related behavioral questions even for a data role then a panel on Teams with 3 people asking STAR stuff and basic Python and SQL questions, make sure you know Enbridge's core values because they ask about them

90 min pair programming that was collaborative, hash map and recursion stuff then a life story interview where they ask what drives you and it all felt natural

First round pre recorded then one more round with hiring manager asked about basic technicals (SQL, Github, CI/CD)

3 rounds total including pre screen, last round in-person was super nervous for it but they were very nice (2 people interviewing me) and pretty much just walked me through my resume and cover letter before talking about the team and work culture.

No take home OA, different. Technical interview with two engineers, DSA questions in C++ or Java, one on graph traversal and one on string manipulation. Also questions about network protocol experience.

Relaxed interview, first 10 minutes they just explained the role and the rules then mostly behavioral with two technical questions at the end about coding experience and data analysis methods. The current state of the Canadian economy came up too, more of a chat than an interview.

Java API optimization question in the technical round. HR first, then the technical with a team lead who also gave me a medium LeetCode problem i think couldve been easy but idk. Last round was behavioral and they had questions about a time I dealt with a difficult team member and how I'd handle conflicting requirements from two stakeholders. Good interviewers.

Resume questions and what I was building in school. They wanted to know why I was interested in energy as a software person. Answered in both French and English. Easy process

Not super deep technically but they cared a lot about communication. First round was a relaxed HR call. Second had two interviewers covering REST API concepts and a teamwork question.

Talent partner call, then a team interview about collaboration.Take home project after that took about 3 hours, then reviewed it on a call. 22 days from apply to offer. Montreal office.

Values interview was the best interview experience I had all recruiting cycle. Three rounds over about a month, OA then Zoom coding then the values round. Got the offer but already accepted somewhere else.
