First round was a Hirevue with 5 questions, 30 seconds prep each. Three of them were about safety which makes sense for an energy company. Panel interview on Teams after that with two engineers asking STAR behavioral stuff and then some qs about heat exchangers and vapor pressures. Make sure you know their core values before you go in

Pre-recordedBehavioralFast process
Know something about what Nutrien actually produces and why it matters or you'll sound like you just applied to fill a quota. Pre recorded video was roughly half video and half written questions, behavioral only for every one. Tell me about a project you worked on, a time you had to work in a team under pressure, what you know about the crop nutrient industry. Phone call follow up after was short, mostly availability and start date. About 2 weeks total from applying to hearing back, really fast.

Keep your unit ops textbook handy before this one. Technical interview was with two process engineers from the upgrader side. Went into fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer and then a distillation column scenario where I had to go through what happens when feed composition changes. Safety culture questions came up in both the technical and HR rounds, stopping work authority and recognizing unsafe conditions. They also asked about any plant visit or field experience. Thorough but not impossible.

19 days from application to rejection. Started with recorded video answers, 3 attempts per question. Then two behavioral rounds and a technical session on process improvement and Six Sigma basics. They pushed J&J values alignment throughout the whole thing.

They were looking for specifics on how I've handled criticism from a supervisor. Hire vue was 5 questions including why Suncor and why engineering. Second round with 3 people, lots of teamwork and safety framing. Not bad but Calgary oil patch roles are competitive.
