Actuarial Analyst Interview Experiences

30 min with 3 people from the internship committee, apparently all co-op students from the previous term. First half was them explaining the role and asking about my interest in actuarial work. Then toward the end they switched to quantitative stuff like binomial theorem and what a t-test does and then hypothesis testing applied to a business scenario. The hypothesis testing one was the toughest, review that from your stats courses. They were nice overall though.

Case about choosing an insurance strategy for an auto company with actual calculations. Behavioral was fine, asked why actuarial consulting and walked through resume in two 30 minute interviews on zoom

Two rounds, first was screening then second was more technical with a senior person who went into NLP and generative AI and also Python stuff that was leetcode level, the role was way more data science leaning than the posting suggested.

Was surprised how quick the whole process was, applied on LinkedIn and they got back to me 2 days after for an interview. One thing I found weird was there were 4 interviewers kinda seemed like overkill and amde me more nervous for no reason lol but simple 'walk me through your resume' then gave me times to ask questions.

Glad I reviewed pricing vs valuation in insurance, asked about it. Phone screen with HR then a zoom with a team lead and director. Program takes around 70 students, lots of exam support.

Did the Hirevue first, 5 questions with 30 sec prep and 3 chances to re record each one. Then an assessment day with four strength based interviews each focused on one competency and a group activity at the end. The group activity was some kind of problem solving scenario with 4 other candidates and I found it hard to read how they were evaluating it. Not traditional behavioral so the questions feel different from the standard STAR format.

They seemed to want someone further along in exams than I was. Virtual interview with an analyst and a manager. Covered exam progress, basic probability and what I knew about P&C pricing

Interview covered why Zurich and I talked about their hybrid model and international presence. Then a question about a time I failed and how I handled it. Also was asking about my data analysis experience which was little lmao.

SQL heavy technical screen and questions about data modeling, didn't expect that. week long take-home building a predictive model on real claims data. onsite was 5 rounds with panels of 2-3 people asking about risk assessment and actuarial modeling and regulatory constraints. they kept bringing up how Intact approaches claims prediction and pricing models. exhausting but interesting process overall just very long.

100% behavioral and resume stuff, nothing actuary specific. Virtual screening then a formal interview with the hiring team. Definity gets tons of applicants from Waterloo so competition was stiff

Interview was very conversational. They did not ask many questions, rather let you ask them questions and guide the conversation. Be prepared with questions that demonstrate your interest in the team.

A few thirty mminute interviews across two rounds, each with a different actuary. They kept asking about the differences between valuation and pricingliterally in 3/4 interviews. One of them asked me to explain term vs whole life insurance and my favourite subject during my degree. Process took almost a month

hireVue first then two rounds. Second round had a case about a tech company entering the electric scooter market. I structured it well but gave a generic answer for the behavioral follow up about my approach to learning new skills. Group case after with other candidates where someone dominated the whole discussion.

Did hireVue with video and written responses. Then two more rounds, just behavioral. Over two months from start to rejection, I'd already accepted somewhere else by then. Timeline was rough.

Was just like a normal conversation talked through my resume for 20 mins and I asked questions for the rest

Smooth process, got the offer. HR round then actuaries. Exam questions and basic probability.

No actuarial exam questions (thank the lord). Got an offer in 7 days.
